Can we predict the future? By embracing transformative change in the here and now, I believe we can. We can divine the future —through presence.
Hollywood is a bellwether for culture as it evolves. Innovations in entertainment both reflect the culture and enhance it. Hollywood shapes culture while being shaped by it.
Transformations taking place across the entertainment landscape offer a unique opportunity to delve deeply into the consciousness of Hollywood. To peer inside the minds, hearts, and offices of those who craft the consciousness-molding media that circulates in the world as entertainment.
Conscious Content
Marshall McLuhan proclaimed “media is the message.” But my experience transcends his statement: Media is bigger and more incisive than that.
The concept of media, of information, of the nature in which content is presented, projected, distributed and digested impacts consciousness.
Because content IS consciousness.
As a fluid storyteller across multiple platforms, my long-time message to media makers has been that publishing content in all its shapes and forms across all the channels available to us is precisely what makes one a “content creator.”
It’s a responsibility. A privilege. And also very meta: a content creator’s work derives from consciousness, affects consciousness. Because it is consciousness.
Content. Is. Consciousness.
Transformations
I am—and have long been—a shaper of art and commerce, a steward of storytelling, a midwife of media birthed into being.
I’ve guided content creators from disparate backgrounds in all forms and genres. From the graphic novel heroes drawn from India’s Ramayana to studio-produced fare drawing on the power of iconic characters like Elle Woods.
My own unique offerings are published across manifold forms of media. I’ve authored editorials, essays, a hard copy book, hosted a web series, produced meditative sound journeys and audio books, shot docuseries, recorded podcasts with teachers and business leaders, moderated panels with startup founders and venture capitalists, posed questions, offered insight and followed my own sense of journalistic discovery through my own writing, teaching, speaking.
I bring a unique perspective as writer and filmmaker along with an intimate knowledge of leadership and enterprise; personal growth and professional development; lean-startup methodology and design thinking.
My philosophy and practices inform hopeful, aspirational — sometimes cautionary — content about the future. All of which serves to transform the audience. Transform it by raising its consciousness.
Future Visions
My company, Virtual Matter, is a Future Visions Agency. Which is how I envisage my work: serving as catalyst for clients and creative partners to seize agency for themselves, for the future, when crafting their own meaningful visions.
