Today’s topic is all about Project SEARCH Mississippi, a program dedicated to helping students with intellectual disabilities find competitive integrated employment. As coordinator of the program, MDRS brings schools, students, teachers and businesses together at Project SEARCH sites across Mississippi.
Once a worksite is coordinated then MDRS provides the support needed to give project search interns real WORK experience which results in the opportunity for employment.
Todays topic is MDRS’ WIPA (WORK INCENTIVES PLANNING AND ASSISTANCE) Program: a 100% federal program funded by the social security administration that provides benefits planning and assistance to all SSDI and/or SSI disabled consumers between the ages of 14 to 64 who have an employment goal.
Assistive Technology plays a huge role in the mission of the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services. From home and vehicle modifications to job supports and more, AT is often the key to how we are able to give thousands of Mississippians with disabilities the tools they need to live more independently. Today’s episode explores the world of AT through MDRS.
Can a Mississippi ABLE account help you save for a better

Among the most rewarding work we do is that with students with disabilities across our state. Our counselors begin working with students at the age of 14 helping them get ready for college or career, whichever transition they choose.
This episode features conversations between our Executive Director, some of our transition counselors, a SPed teacher and a student we serve to highlight resources available to teachers, parents and students with disabilities in Mississippi.
