Ever thought that you're not making / not seeing progress in the gym because you're doing TOO MUCH?
To grow muscle (in order to be stronger, fitter, healthier, have more definition etc) the most recent studies say you need to be performing between X & Y number of sets per week in the gym (I explain in the podcast).
I see a lot of women jump to the 'ALL' end of the 'all or nothing' spectrum when it comes to wanting to get fit, build muscle.
But training more isn't necessarily better. It doesn't necessarily mean MORE growth, MORE progress.
There is such thing as the law of diminishing returns.... ie. more is better... until it's not. And the benefit isn't as great after a certain point.
For ANYTHING to grow, it needs to recover. Muscle is the same. The gym is just the stimulus. The nutrition, the fuel, the walking, the swim, the sleep, the hydration... all things required to repair the torn muscle tissue from training in the gym & to build it up bigger and stronger.
If you're constantly battering your muscles 6+ per week, your body doesn't get much of a chance to recover.
That being said, some people CAN train 6+ per week and get great results. But they will have been training consistently for years, have their nutrition dialled in, won't be in a calorie deficit for most of the year, and take their recovery seriously.
The sweet spot of training frequency & how many working sets per muscle group is perfect for you is largely dictated by your 1. Training age (How long you've been training consistently for), 2. How intense your session are, 3. How much muscle mass you already have, 4. How well / how much your body can recover from before the next training session.
For most people, and in particular, most women - I'd personally say x3-x4 session per week is a sweet spot.
I could go into training splits, but that would require a whole other episode!
But food for thought!
Count up how many working sets you're doing PER MUSCLE GROUP, and see if you land between the optimal range for hypertrophy, or whether you fall outside of it.
Alternatively - apply to work with me and I'll do this for you!
