The SABC, South Africa’s public broadcaster, has partnered with The Loeries, Africa and the Middle East’s premier brand communications festival, in support of growing creative excellence in Film and the Radio & Audio categories.  

The Loeries Film and the Radio & Audio categories attract a number of entries from around the region and the SABC will support the work being done by the Loeries to further enhance and bolster the creative produc that is aimed at consumers.

Agri SA calls for assistance as veld fires threaten food security. Ongoing fire outbreaks in the Free State, North West and Northern Cape provinces have the federation of agricultural organisations, Agri SA, concerned about food security in South Africa.

He is the founder of Xivumbeko Media and the Afrikan Freedom Station, an afrocentric multimedia gallery. Mokwena was born in Soweto, South Africa and studied history, African politics and sociology at WITS University. He also holds an MA degree from Leeds University. He is particularly interested in history and memory and has produced and directed numerous films, including A Blues for Tiro (2007), Our Father Who Art in Memory (2008), Biko’s Trail (2008) and Driving with Fanon (2009).

Not many people know that one of the most valuable music treasures in South Africa is kept in the heart of the SU campus at the Documentation Centre for Music (DOMUS) at the Music Library. The Hidden Years Music Archive houses one of the biggest collections of popular music in South Africa and includes more than 6000 vinyl records, 7000 reel-to-reel and cassette tapes as well as a multitude of invaluable photographs and documents.

Dr Wilhelm Litchenberg, AKA ‘The Singing Surgeon’ is on an important mission both in the operating room and on stage. Recently, his foundation won first prize for their work at the Conscious Companies Awards. Dr Wilhelm Litchenberg is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon by profession, he also doubles as a tenor talent who takes his life-saving efforts further than the operating room.

Our guest writes about the vast majority of South Africans are unhappy with the way democracy is working, while our trust in public institutions and government officials continues to decline. Political participation (especially among the youth) is also at an all-time low. On the eve of our seventh general elections, which will also mark the 30th anniversary of the advent of democracy in this country, we seem to find ourselves in a particularly sorry state.

A group of activists for food access and affordability met on Thursday 21 September 2023)to discuss the worsening food crisis for children. In 2019 Gideon and his wife, Olivia, gave up their jobs as pastors and opened a coffee truck which, over the years, has grown into a formal café. From the very beginning, they committed to feeding the homeless people who would pass by, offering them coffee and a chocolate croissant, no questions asked. Over time, Gideon got to know the regulars, engaging with them and finding ways to help them off the streets and, if necessary, into rehab.
