The Poetry in McGregor Festival, an annual highlight on the festival calendar in the Western Cape, is now in its ninth year and will bring together poets and poetry lovers from all over the country for a feast of the written word once more.

The 25th Edition of Poetry Africa is one of the biggest contemporary poetry events on the African continent and offers a weeklong celebration of wordsmiths across all ages and cultural and diverse linguistic backgrounds. This year’s winner of the Youth Poet category is 17 year old learner Tshiamo Mqweba.

This week's major story on Social Media in our country involved Grilled chicken brand Nandos and Gareth Cliff's Burning Platform show as he hosted a discussion on politics and the upcoming elections with DA Leader John Steenhuisen and community activist, Mudzuli Rakhivhane, in which Cliff insinuated that racism was not as big a problem as poor service delivery.

The Media Innovation category at the Loeries focuses on the ideas that truly push our creativity forward. It recognizes innovation on any media platform and is designed to recognise the brands and agencies who exhibit truly brave thinking in their use of media. The TikTok and Loeries relationship is set to flourish in 2022, with bi-monthly TikTok awards and a TikTok sub-category that aims to develop, grow and reward brands and agencies, from across the region, with the most innovative TikTok content.

The contribution of the Cultural and Creative Industries to the GDP shrank by R42.2 billion in 2020, representing a 50% drop from 2019. This is one of the findings from the latest report on the Impact of Covid-19 on the Cultural and Creative Industries undertaken by the SA Cultural Obser- vatory (SACO). The report was released this past Friday in Soweto.

Masonwabe is a 24-year-old designer/illustrator, founder of Create Studios and textile design graduate. He grew up in a small-town called Edutywa, but is originally from a village called Engwane, where he has drawn most of his inspiration. He has worked alongside textile retailer, Airloom and menswear retailer, Markhams to bring his designs to new audiences. Today, he chats to us about the lessons he has learned in the industry and provides advice to upcoming designers.

The Night Embassy is a residency programme centred around “Freiraum”, a space for unbridled self-expression and unlimited creativity. From 12th November, to 4th December, the selected Ambassador will be exploring new directions in nightlife culture through various artforms  and foster a strong sense of community.
