The Durban FilmMart Institute (DMI) has announced the programme for the 11th Durban FilmMart (DFM) Virtual Edition, which opened yesterday Friday and on until 13 September this year.

“Using the theme Brave New Cinema, bringing together leading and emerging African film professionals in an online space, to benchmark themselves, learn from peers, pitch their ideas and projects and network, and collectively demonstrate our courage to tell our own stories,” says Toni Monty, Head of the DFM.

The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) has partnered with the South African Innovation Summit (SAIS) to host the 2020 Innovation Summit that will be held from 30 September to 01 October 2020.

The event will be held virtually, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The summit brings together innovation leaders from different countries, back-grounds, disciplines and worldviews.

A recent study reveals that a downward trend in the intake of iron and other vital nutrients is contributing to poor brain function and other health problems.
The study, by the UK’s University of Sunderland, collected micronutrient data from two national nutrition surveys and found that people of all ages showed low levels of intake of iron, vitamin A, calcium, magnesium, iodine, selenium and zinc. In South Africa, research also indicates a high level of nutrient deficiency and hunger, both contributing to poor health.

A penguin at Australia's Perth Zoo has taken to binge-watching episodes of the beloved children's television series 'Pingu' to get over his loneliness. Pierre is an endangered Northern Rockhopper penguin who was found washed up on a beach in the south west of the country. He is the only penguin of his kind to be found in all of Australasia.

Actor Chadwick Boseman, best known for playing the role of T'Challa in the hit Marvel superhero movie Black Panther, has died of colon cancer at age 43.

Veteran actor John Kani who played the role of T'challa's father in the highly acclaimed movie said he was devastated by Boseman's passing: “I am devastated by this young man who was such a great promise. But he worked so hard knowing that his time was limited. He will leave a memorable mark in Hollywood.”
