He is a working class lad from Liverpool who had a meteoric rise in the world of academia. He became one of the youngest Professors in his field.

Then he walked away from it.

A fascinating story in itself. But it’s what happens next that’s really interesting.  He started to see life in a different way.

It’s an incredible story about an ordinary Lancashire woman who makes it big. She has some great tips for other photographers too – especially when it comes to her creative process.

I realise that I don’t have any friends on the Right of the political spectrum. I hang out with people who share my views and values. Comfortable, huh!

In this episode, I’m deliberately talking to someone whose politics are the opposite of my own. Shannon Whittington lives in the United States. She is a libertarian from the Right of the political spectrum. I’m in the UK and on the  Left.

I spoke to Shannon to see if we could have a conversation about politics that remained friendly and non judgemental. Could we stay connected to the needs and feelings behind our respective world views? Could we have that rare thing – a human conversation about contentious issues without seeing each other as “the enemy”?
