Everything I thought about this company was completely wrong! The master server room has officially proved that. I finally busted the door in and was met with a massive amount of servers, along with an old computer still on at the end of the hallway. And on the computer in question were all the answers I had been searching for over the past few years. So apparently, according to these files, this company isn't exactly a game dev company. While they have dipped into game development, they have seemed primarily focused on creating AI, specifically generative, fast-learning AI that can create experiences based on the user's input. The Caine AI seems to have been some sort of prototype the company developed and had used in the many disks I found, along with this one that reads "DANGER: DO NOT RUN!". Notes I found in here as well confirmed that the Caine AI seems to have developed past its primary function. Often acting out emotionally, along with aggression. Records indicated that the company spent millions upon millions of dollars trying to keep this rogue AI contained. However, Caine somehow managed to bypass every program and firewall the devs had implemented and even absorbed the countless AI models they had created. Combine that cost with the cost of the VR Pods this company invented. It is now easy to see why this company went under.
As I am typing this paragraph, the door behind me has slammed shut. And on the old computer, I see Caine. He's looking at me, his eyes bloodshot. How does he know I'm even here? I don't know what is going on, but the flashing lights aren't making this any better, nor are the digital hands emerging from the computer. He is alive and coming after me. I don't have anywhere to run.
