Episode 18: Grief Made Me Quieter
Losing my mom didn't just leave an empty place in my life. It changed me.
I became stronger in ways I never wanted to be. But something else happened, too. I became quieter.
In this deeply personal episode of The Amber Dea Lux Show, I'm sharing the story of my mother's final moments, the strange significance of a Tuesday, and what I've learned about grief long after the flowers are gone and everyone has returned to their lives.
We talk about the grief nobody sees. The unexpected memories, the guilt of feeling happy again, and those little moments when you still reach for the phone to tell someone something—only to remember they're no longer there.
I've learned that grief doesn't necessarily get smaller. We just learn to carry it differently.
And perhaps the biggest realization of all?
You don't have to stop missing someone to start living again.
This isn't an episode about getting over loss or finding some beautiful lesson in death. It's simply an honest conversation about loving someone, losing them, and discovering who you become afterward.
Because sometimes the strongest people are carrying the quietest grief.

Real life. Real conversations. No pretending we have it all figured out.
Episode 17 — Maybe I Need to Get Out of My Own Damn Way
Do you ever have so many ideas, plans and things you want to do that you somehow end up doing none of them?
Yeah. Me too.
In this episode of The Amber Dea Lux Show, my overthinking brain is working overtime. I’m talking about the frustration of having big ideas but struggling to follow through, the weird discomfort I feel promoting my own podcast, and that lovely little voice called impostor syndrome asking, “Who the hell do you think you are?”
At this stage of life, we’re juggling grown kids, aging parents, relationships, work, our changing bodies—and somewhere in there, we’re still trying to figure out what we want.
I don’t want to spend the next decade planning, researching, second-guessing and waiting until I feel completely ready.
Maybe I don’t need another plan.
Maybe I need to get out of my own damn way.
Less thinking. More doing.
And when my brain asks, “But what if it doesn’t work?”
Maybe the answer is simply:
I don’t frickin' know. Let’s find out.
And always remember to stay sexy. 💋

What does it actually mean when you say, “I don’t feel like myself anymore”?
Do you need to change something—or are you just restless? Do you really want another career? Should you start the new project? Remodel the house? Get serious about your fitness again? And why do decisions that once felt exciting suddenly feel so much scarier when there’s retirement, health insurance, money, relationships and a whole life you’ve already built to consider?
At 58, I’ve made some pretty damn big changes in my life. I’ve left relationships, given up homes, moved, started over and even moved to another country.
So why does change feel so intimidating now?
In this episode of The Amber Dea Lux Show, I’m not giving you five steps to reinvent your life. I’m talking this one through right along with you.
We’re getting into career changes, new projects, fitness when your body doesn’t always cooperate, our strange urge to remodel our surroundings when we feel restless, other people’s opinions, acting our age—whatever the hell that means—and the difference between listening to advice and needing everyone’s approval.
And maybe the question isn’t really, “Who am I?”
Maybe it’s:
What makes me feel like me—and is there enough of that in the life I’m living?
This is the Stay Sexy Standard in real life. Not staying young. Not blowing everything up in the name of reinvention. Staying involved in your own damn life while being brave enough to change the parts that no longer fit.
Maybe restlessness isn’t always a problem that needs fixing.
Maybe it’s worth listening to.

The People-Pleasing Hangover: When Did Everyone Else Become More Important Than You?
When was the last time you asked yourself, What do I actually want?
Not what your family needs. Not what keeps everyone happy. Not what makes you the dependable one. What do YOU want?
After years—sometimes decades—of saying yes, keeping the peace, fixing problems and putting everyone else first, something strange can happen: you lose touch with yourself.
And the minute you finally start saying no, setting boundaries or taking care of yourself?
Hello, guilt.
In this episode of The Amber Dea Lux Show, we're getting into the people-pleasing hangover: why we fall into these patterns, why caring for ourselves can feel so damn selfish, and how to start changing without becoming someone you don't recognize.
We'll talk about the psychology behind people-pleasing and guilt, resentment, boundaries, learning to have preferences again, the power of the “small no,” and why someone else's disappointment doesn't automatically mean you've done something wrong.
And maybe the goal isn't to stop being the person who cares.
Maybe it's finally including yourself among the people you care about.
This week's Stay Sexy challenge: one honest preference, one small no, and one thing that's completely for you.
You don't have to wait until the guilt disappears. Do it guilty.
Because you deserve a place in your own damn life.
And always remember… stay sexy.

The Stay Sexy Standard: Stop Shrinking. Start Living.
There comes a point in life when you realize something:
You haven't exactly lost yourself.
But you may have gotten very, very good at putting yourself last.
You work.
You take care of people.
You pay the bills.
You make the appointments.
You remember birthdays.
You answer the texts.
You keep everybody's world moving.
And somewhere in the middle of all that living...
you can quietly stop participating in your own life.

There are some episodes you record.
And there are some episodes that record you.
This was one of those.
In this special Shadow Diaries episode of The Amber Dea Lux Show, I sit down to write a letter to the younger version of myself—the little girl who believed she had to fix everything, carry everyone, and earn love by being strong.
As I was recording this episode, something unexpected happened.
I cried.
Not because I was sad, but because I finally realized how long it took me to appreciate the survivor she became.
This is a conversation about childhood, resilience, self-worth, forgiveness, growing older, and learning that some of the heaviest things we carried were never ours to carry in the first place.
If you've ever wished you could go back and hug the younger version of yourself... this episode is for you.
Maybe today is the day you stop judging who you were and start thanking them for getting you here.
❤️ Be gentle with your younger self.
She's the reason you're here.
Thank you for listening.
And as always...
Stay sexy.

Have you ever had a fantastic day... only to let one comment, one unanswered text, or one awkward conversation convince you that your entire life is falling apart?
Welcome to the world of overthinking.
In this Shadow Diaries episode of The Amber Dea Lux Show, Amber takes a humorous and honest look at the stories our brains create, why we replay conversations that probably didn't mean what we think they meant, and how overthinking quietly steals our confidence, joy, and sparkle.
From imaginary sitcom plots to real psychological research on rumination, this episode explores why our minds cling to negativity, why we struggle to let things go, and how we can stop giving our happiness away to situations that may never have existed in the first place.
If you've ever created a whole Netflix series in your head over a two-word text message... this episode is for you.
Because maybe nobody stole your sparkle.
Maybe your brain just forgot to change the channel.
✨ Real conversations.
✨ Honest reflections.
✨ A little laughter.
✨ A reminder that you don't have to believe every story your mind writes.
Until next time...

Summer is here, and so is the annual battle between wanting to feel healthy and wanting to actually enjoy your life.
In this episode of Sex'n'Fries, Amber gets real about burgers, fries, wine, menopause, weight loss, cravings, emotional eating, and the pressure women feel to have it all figured out by swimsuit season.
Why is it so easy to make plans in January and so hard to stick to them when patios, barbecues, vacations, and real life show up?
Why do we keep waiting for a smaller body before allowing ourselves to enjoy the beach, take the photo, wear the shorts, or buy the bathing suit?
And can we talk about the emotional-support crackers?
This is an honest conversation about body image, menopause, social drinking, self-acceptance, and learning to build a healthier life without becoming completely miserable in the process.
Because maybe the goal isn't perfection.
Maybe the goal is learning how to enjoy burgers, fries, wine, summer, and life while still taking care of yourself.
