Looped in yet…do you see the calamity of confusion, is The City Girl or The Country Girl-yes!
What do others see in us? Fair question. Does it really matter? Depends. Context is critical, would you agree?
Do you have a professional/business persona, branding or style? Do you actively and intentionally maintain it?
Is this something that is important to you or a non-issue, low priority...either way...it's all good!
I'm sharing this story for a little bit of fun on the topic with a heavy dose of recognizing personal growth...in real time-yikes!
Why was I struggling so? The label?
I was seriously hung up with being placed in one persona over another...whoa. Personal growth happening live and in front of almost strangers!
Interesting situation to quickly work through, this tango of mixed emotions and in-real time.
Taking on the personal challenges of getting to this place where we were sitting, this hang up wasn't going to stall out the project for such a seemingly silly dilemma of mine.
Seriously why was I or do I have such angst towards being labeled?
Anyone else have this aversion? Let's talk!

A few months ago, I came across a local news article about Mary Kay Ash and it triggered, let's use the work "sparked!" my interest to read more. And did it ever. That day I ordered all the books by Mary Kay Ash and her company I could find that early morning:
I finished Miracles Happen by Mary Kay Ash. Isn't it amazing, only a few chapters in and it's allowed me to connect the dots with such whimsy and reframe the experience! Immediately I'm feeling a kinship of her values, struggles, risk taking decisions and feeling nostalgic over the good ole' days of my youth. The ornery pain of the pesky publication jab quite literary evaporated. Strange, freeing and knowing that the time was now only because I was ready. I was ready to revisit those pains and memories...now, today- so that I might be able to understand the deeper lesson, to put them into context and see the full storyboard. The story where Mary Kay, her dream and almost out of dire, tragic circumstance-her sheer will and firm determination, backing herself despite the naysayers, living by the and creating the foundational blocks of her empire by the Golden Rule was and has been a part of me. As I am only in the early chapters of the first book I purchased, the pink power overwhelmes and heals my heart. It seems her impact was just a powerful in my life, without me realizing it, as it must have been for all of the women who actually were and are fortunate souls to wear the Mary Kay Consultant name badge.
But there is more to the story...
Mark Kay Cosmetics & Home Interiors and Gifts was a memorable part of my childhood, our Mother was a Mary Kay Cosmetics Consultant, in the late 1970's-who also then became a Home Interiors and Gifts Independent Contractor Displayer Business Woman-in the early 80's. We had at one point, an enclosed portion of our sunroom or mudroom to have a little boutique space at our home. Pegboard displays, getting in shipments to unpack with Styrofoam peanuts sticking to everything, her desk it was great-home office before it was cool! I still get a kick out of seeing and pointing out so many of these décor items still in people's homes today, or in photos, now making the thrift shop and antique store shelves. And Oh the prizes she earned silver punch bowl set, goblets, diamond rings (which have given blessings X10 in, that's another story!) and the lapel pins...just as Mary Kay Ash describes in her book.
In fact, one of the most impressionable memories and stories is when my Mother and Aunt Chris traveled...on an airplane (that was huge in my head then), to Dallas, Texas (even huger!) for a Mary Kay Seminar! Drop the mic. Dallas...TEXAS...that was unimaginable as a little girl living in a small town in Michigan. When she got home, she wasn't empty handed...

CONVERSATION HIGHLIGHTS
Sky: Dr. Carolyn talks about her Silhouette of Success journey, how she came to find her way in launching Sky Women's Health. She reflected back, coming full circle to a fellowship and realized that she had all of the skillset that required nothing more than her hands plus her OBGYN skillset. Lightbulb! It's for the busy professional woman, busy Mom's and a direct care practice where the client base is smaller, and it's such a more intimate experience and care with your Doctor. She talks about how easy it is to do what everyone else is doing, going on your own can be very uncomfortable. She tells us that it's about coming from a place of authenticity, honoring her health and her patience health. It's been a beautiful thing.
Happy Place: She followed her love, women's health, delivering babies, taking care of women. This is what ignited her within! She set goals for herself through the years. Carolyn shares about her supportive family and husband, loving the time at home with her babies while also feeling that she had so much more to offer the world. She was told that she needed to go back full time and increased the volume of surgeries, deliveries-you are not enough, she was good at it...but she knew that this wasn't "it" for her. She talks about her sense of knowing. She found a mentor, read more, listened to podcasts and started becoming an entrepreneur. She decided to open her own, cash-based practice providing excellent care. She found a place of healing during her rural health service commitment, meeting her husband and realized this was where she was meant to be.
Creative: She identified a mentor early on, Dr. Smith who told her to figure out what she wanted to do, and she would help her. Women empowering women. The concept came from a book she read titled Half the Sky, women hold up half the sky, she then joined EntreMD, a physician's business school for marketing, sat down on the floor with her nurse on a piece of paper from her kids art easel and drew out processes, the services she wanted to provide and to this day their services evolve. She traded services for rent, just being creative. There is always a way!
