The House Committee on the Judiciary held a markup on H.R. 1585, the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2019, on March 13, 2019.
During the session, Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wisconsin) offered an amendment that would have stripped the landmark tribal jurisdiction provisions of the 2013 version of VAWA from the law.
The amendment was defeated by a vote of 9 to 16, with only Republicans voting in favor it while Democrats were opposed.
H.R. 1585 itself was approved by a vote of 22 to 11, with only Democrats voting in favor. All the no votes came from Republicans.
