The Anchor: A Port Wentworth Podcast episodes
- Ep. 1: A City Growing Up, with Mayor Tracy Saunders
Mayor Tracy Saunders joins host James Touchton, Director of Economic Development, for the first episode of The Anchor. Seven months into her first term, the Mayor talks about the night residents chose a new direction, what is true and what is not about the City's finances, and why she compares Port Wentworth to a teenager in the middle of a growth spurt.
In this episode:
- How the FY27 budget was balanced with no millage increase
- Why years of planning, studies and engineering come before any project breaks ground
- What Anchor Park, VyStar Pavilion and the Ice Cove mean for residents, from new things to do to hotel taxes that help keep the millage rate down
- Where the city is headed in the year ahead
"We're not just a drive-through place anymore, we're a destination." Mayor Tracy Saunders
The Anchor is a weekly podcast from the City of Port Wentworth Department of Economic Development.

About The Anchor: A Port Wentworth Podcast
From the publisher's feed
Port Wentworth is one of the fastest-growing cities in Georgia, and you can see it every time you drive across town. The Anchor is where the City explains what you're seeing: what is being built, why it was planned that way, and what it means for the people who live here.
Hosted by James Touchton, Director of Economic Development, each weekly episode takes on one story. Guests include city leaders, local business owners, residents and partners. You'll hear the years of planning behind each new project and straight answers to the questions people actually ask. The show also connects the dots: concerts and visitors fill hotel rooms, hotel taxes ease the load on residents, and that activity gives new restaurants and shops a reason to invest here.
The Anchor is for longtime residents and new neighbors alike, honoring what Port Wentworth has been while being clear about where it's headed. No jargon and no press releases, just the real story of a city growing up.
