  • Episode 15 - First Contact is about Ourselves
    Part 1: (0:00- 1:39)
Returning guest Adam Feuerberg joins Andy to discuss the sci-fi, action, drama "Star Trek: First Contact." First Contact is in its' 25th year (1996), and is the personal favorite of both of these men for a long list of reasons. Star Trek is important to Andy and Adam as it is about humanity, our potential, and our quest to be better as we move into the future. First Contact champions the franchise so well, speaks about humanities expanding beyond Earth and exploring the stars, and widened the fan base for the big screen. After the capitol attacks on January 6, 2021, this film rings even more on the money as the United States democracy is challenged - very much like humanities past being threatened by the time traveling Borg. The Borg, a race of cybernetic zombies all linked together into a hive consciousness are a favored Trek villain. Although the Borg were invented in the 80s, they represent the dangers of social media and the internet if we don't allow our critical minds to resist the lies and group think. Is resistance futile?
    Part 2: (1:39-2:02)
Adam is a stand up comedian and tv producer for CBS' "Let's Make a Deal" and talks about his job, what it's like to work on a live television show, and answers questions about the different kinds of producers and their roles.

  • Episode 14 - The Orange Years are Full of Good Burgers
    Part 1: (0:00- 1:17)
Texas filmmaker Scott Barber joins Andy to talk about the journey of his freshly released documentary, "The Orange Years: The Nickelodeon story." Scott co-wrote and co-directed this movie, which chronicles the rise of the fledgling cable network, Nickelodeon, in its' formative years. The piece focuses mostly on the network's rise under the visionary leadership of president Geraldine Laybourne, who imprinted her powerful stamp. Geraldine got kids; got how to reach them, bond with them, and speak to them. Nickelodeon became a place for kids to grow and learn in a safe environment that was real, and just that right amount of naughty.
    Part 2: (1:17-2:05)
Andy and Scott Barber take a deep fried, well done dive into the formative Nickelodeon feature from 1997, "Good Burger." This film explores powerful motifs that are ringing loudly in 2020 such as corporate takeover, the struggle of the middle class, and the raging battle for small business and the American dream.

  • Episode 13 - Hellraiser: Twitch Has Such Sights to Show You
    Part 1: (0:00 - 1:08)
Andy interviews Twitch Host Darren Emmanuel (Dads1stTime), a New York City resident and father of two. These two talk about the amazing new world of Twitch streaming, and how this platform allows hosts to tailor their own voice online and reach out to like minded individuals and grow their networks and communities. Andy and Darren have collaborated on Twitch and have both found much comfort and budding friendships on this platform in this trying and isolating year of 2020.
    Part 2: (1:08 -2:03)
Andy and Darren take a deep multidimensional dive into the 1987 horror classic from director Clive Barker - "Hellraiser." This movie takes bold steps into the world of tabu, of exploring our inner headspace, deepest desires, and confronts the horrors in our very families and homes. This film struck a major chord and created an entire subculture in the horror and fantasy worlds. What is this film asking from us? Is there a twisted morality play at hand?

Andy, Nick, and Ryan then take a deep dive into the 1997 Science Fiction, Fascism, satire, and action/adventure piece from Paul Verhoeven - Starship Troopers.
This bunch realize watching this film in 2020 is different than watching it before as we see a stunning rise of fascism on our home soil here in the USA. Films give us the toolset to be critical of our world, our government, and our way of life.
Starship Troopers, on the surface, is a fun action sci- fi romp; but underneath - it is anything but fluff. What is this film warning us about? Often times the line between freedom and tyranny is much thinner than we realize.
Why is this film so important and what does it ask of us?

  • Episode 11 - This Little Shining Podcast of Mine, I'm Going to Let it Shine
Multitalented and esteemed actor, John Gallagher Jr., joins Andy to talk about his showbiz journey from growing up together in Wilmington Delaware to moving to New York City in pursuit of a career in stage and film.
John and Andy, dear friends of 20 years, have logged many hours talking about cinema, life, and the world. These two take a deep plunge into one of their favorite films, the 1980 horror classic from Stanley Kubrick-- The Shining.
This monolithic piece of cinema, now 40 years old, still scares and amazes us as a society, but also continues to probe into our collective unconscious as a nation, and species. From a symbolic and allegorical stand point, this movie is the crown jewel of rabbit hole/deep dives. Why does this film still blow us away? What is it asking us to analyze?
40 years later we are still analyzing its' meanings and hidden Easter eggs. From its' surface narrative of cabin fever, breakdown of nuclear family, to its' analysis of breakdown of society as a whole, this film still poses many haunting questions about humanity's flaws and dark side. Can we escape the past and grow as a society?
    John Gallagher Jr. :
John has made a name for himself in acting, earning a Tony award for his work in "Spring Awakening," and playing the lead in Green Day's rock opera "American Idiot." He was also a series lead on HBO's "The Newsroom," and has just returned to HBO for "Westworld" Season 3.
