The God we serve is a Covenant God. All through the Bible, we see Him making covenants, not contracts, with people. One of the most significant covenants He made in the Old Testament was with the Children of Israel – sealed by the obedient act of circumcision. Without which, the Israelites could not inherit the full promises of God and neither could they please Him. The principle of spiritual circumcision remains a powerful one in our day and applies to every believer who seeks to progress towards perfection in their walk with God. It is voluntary and something which we must decide to let the Spirit of God do in our hearts.
