Paul has just finished multiple sections on the ways that the church can “destroy” the temple of God and now he is talking about how the members can begin to build up the body of Christ by the power of the Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:1-11; Galatians 5:16-18

The church body in Corinth has misunderstood the purpose, value, and blessing of the Lord’s Supper and in abusing it are creating a Gospel issue as it relates to the understanding of Jesus’ sacrifice.

1 Corinthians 11:17-34; Pasalm 139:23-24

Don’t do things that will make your brother or sister stumble, rather in everything we do, live and worship in a way that builds them up and glorifies God.

1 Corinthians 11:2-16; Genesis 1:26-27, 2:7-8, 15, 19-25; John 3:30; 1 Corinthians 10:23

In humility, we make day to day, moment to moment decisions to honor God as we go through life. Paul offers himself as a picture of one seeking to live a faithful life.

Worship of God is exclusive - one cannot worship God and "dine with demons". Paul's stern warning against idol worship shows us the importance of an undivided heart, in an undivided community in undivided worship.

Paul shows how the community of Israel, established by God and given gifts by God, still sinned and was judged. Because of that, it gives the Christians in Corinth an example, and us as well, of what not to do. Dependence on God and his faithfulness, not on us, our abilities or experiences, will help us endure temptation, defeat sin, and live the life Jesus has set out for us.
