Jesus deftly navigates through the various reasons why we wouldn’t engage spiritual life in his conversation with the Samaritan woman. The value of this passage is that it shows us that whatever the issue is, there is an answer in Jesus.

John the Baptist speaks words that should be a motto for all believers when he says “He must increase, I must decrease.” Jesus is the story and all of us are invited to point people to the source of life.

Jesus’ calling of his disciples is something that echoes throughout history as each of us is invited to come and see the Lord. This is a great moment to stop and reflect on your own calling as a disciple of Jesus.

Jesus’ ministry begins with the testimony of John — he both identifies and prophecies about Jesus’ ministry. Jesus is the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world and the one who gives us the Holy Spirit.
