We have clearly verifiable reports of John Calvin mercilessly murdering his theological opponents, burning people at the stake for witchcraft & thought crimes, plus mass arrests in Geneva Switzerland. Some reports say 100s of arrests and imprisonments by John Calvin. The report of "Were Witches Really Burned In The Middle Ages" states 500 were condemned as witches and burned at the stake.
Here are some competing views:
"Multiple death sentences are also reported by this same Protestant scholar, Galiffé, who delved into the records of that time. Describing a short period of Calvin’s rule he says, “One counts 30 executions of men and 28 of women, subdivided by method of death: 13 persons hanged, 10 beheaded, 55 quartered, 35 burned alive after being tortured.”(9)Reporting the religious persecutions of Calvin, author Jean Tet affirms that “from 1542 to 1546, which was the softer period of his government, we count 58 capital executions, 76 banishments and 900 imprisonments.”(10)"
[The next report would believe some of these arrests were actually witch burnings.]

Zachary Garris on "Honor Thy Fathers: Recovering the Anti-Feminist Theology of the Reformers" says: "The goal of this book is to introduce the reader to the Reformed theology of the family and to contrast this theology with deviations among modern Protestant churches, particularly those who claim ties to the Reformed tradition. After studying our Reformed forefathers [John Calvin, Luther, Knox, Vermigli] on the family and male rule in the home, the church, and the commonwealth, Christians must consider whether the modern church’s departure from the teaching of these men has been more faithful to the Bible and has produced a more orderly society. Our spiritual forefathers would certainly say no."
