Service on Sunday 10th February was about putting other people’s needs before our own. It is this selfless mindset that God looks for in His people.
In Matthew 25, Jesus tells us the parable of the ten virgins. Five of them were wise and the other five were foolish. In the parable they each take a lamp and go on their way to meet the bridegroom.
“They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.” Matthew 25:3-4
At midnight, a cry was heard for them to go out and meet the bridegroom. The five fools said to the wise, “Give us your oil; for our lamps have gone out.” The wise told them to find a marketplace and purchase some oil for themselves.
Whilst they were away the bridegroom came, took the wise with Him and closed the door behind them. Upon their return, the foolish asked the Lord to let them in. His response was, “I know you not.”
What do we learn from this parable?
The five foolish virgins only thought of themselves when their lamps went out. Demanding the wise hand over their supplies, without even considering whether or not they would need it themselves.
It was their selfish attitude that caused them to miss out on eternity with God.
Watch or listen to our service to go deeper into this topic and to understand that we must put others before ourselves. This lifestyle benefits us and the people we love.
