In this mini-solo episode, I discuss practical and actionable ways to avoid burnout! In the legal industry, our jobs can be very demanding at times and I think it’s better to try and avoid burnout, than pretend like it won’t happen if we just ignore the signs!
In summary, know your priorities, make a list and really be mindful of managing your time! “Quit Quitting” is not an option for many of us running our own businesses, so be proactive with your mental health!

In this episode, I speak with Canadian-Kiwi Lawyer, Adrian J. Carter. We discuss his education (including his time in the Paralegal Program at Fleming College), his transfer to university, law school, and then his legal career. He also worked for the public sector in New Zealand during COVID, and so I got to ask him, “What was it like being on the government side of COVID restrictions… in New Zealand?!” He also gives advice to those interested in the public sector and/or looking to change jurisdictions.
It is one of The Applicant Podcasts longer episodes and worth listening to every minute!

✨E22 LAW FIRM, IN-HOUSE, FREELANCE, or going SOLO... which one is best?
I wrote my paralegal licensing exam on August 1st, 2017 (almost 5 years ago today). Since then I have legal industry work experience in "big" law at a Toronto office, in-house as Lead of Legal, freelancing for lawyers, and running my own sole proprietorship providing immigration representation.
In this solo episode, I discuss my experiences in each role and my advice for those new to the legal industry or looking for a change in their career.
Let me know if you have any questions, and please DM me topics you'd like me to further discuss in future episodes!
