The coming of the great redistribution?

I am left confused on the matter of wealth redistribution. Does the author truly appreciate free market thinking or does he secretly crave it's demise. He indirectly tells the reader that if you want to be wealthy you must desire it above all else and it must consume your thinking if you want to achieve it. Next, he says that if you don't think you can achieve it be happy where you are and accept your given lot in life by accepting paycheck to paycheck existence. Are the barriers to great wealth achievement psychological , or actual class barriers put out bring society? The whole concept of the book leaves me with more questions than insight into answers..
