Listen Later

On this edition of The Arts Section, host Gary Zidek takes a closer look at the world of web TV.  Chicago has become a hotbed of activity for web series development thanks in large part to the work of Dr. Aymar Jean Christian.  Gary caught up with the  Northwestern University communications professor to talk about the evolution of web series over the years and the platform he created, Open Television (OTV).  Gary also caught up with author Amy Kaufman to talk about her new book, BACHELOR NATION.  Why is the reality show so popular? Kaufman gets into the show's interesting history.  Later in the program, the Dueling Critics, Kelly Kleiman and Jonathan Abarbanel, stop by to review Lookingglass Theatre's world premiere production of PLANTATION!  Gary reviews Steven Soderbergh's new film, UNSANE. And Gary sits down with pianist and composer Greg Spero.  The Chicago-area native was back home for a few days to perform with his new band, Spirit Fingers. Spero has had an interesting journey from growing up in Highland Park to today making music in Los Angeles.
