At 5:52 PM on Tuesday, March 31st 2020, a 6.5 magnitude earthquake shook central Idaho and the surrounding area. The quake's epicenter was in the SAC Banner Summit zone, about 20 miles northwest of the town of Stanley. The earthquake occurred at the end of a major spring snowstorm that dropped 2-3 feet of new snow in the mountains adjacent to the earthquake. The avalanche danger was rated as HIGH on the day of the earthquake. (From the USFS Sawtooth Avalanche Center).

In the wake of this unique event, we sat down with Scott Savage, Ben VandenBoss, and Chris Lundy- all forecasters at the Sawtooth Avalanche Center. We hear their accounts of this unique event. Enjoy!

Music by Chris Kaplinski.
