With RJ out this week, returning guest Andrew steps in as we dive into Jim Henson’s 1982 fantasy classic, The Dark Crystal.

We're talking puppets, world-building, and the strange, and absurd tone that makes this movie so wild. Whether this is your first time watching it, or you grew up with this one, this episode explores how The Dark Crystal holds up today — and how it shaped fantasy storytelling for years to come.

This week, we’re joined by Jordan — founder of Beach Bums Never Die — to revisit Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. We talk bad teeth, groovy fashion, the surprisingly smart dumb humor, and whether Mike Myers’ spy spoof still holds up in 2024.

This week, we’re joined by the founder of California lifestyle brand Beach Bums Never Die and the founder of City Apparel and Designs to revisit one of the most beloved adventure films of all time — The Goonies.

We dive into the nostalgia and what it was like growing up with this movie as part of our childhood. From pirate booty traps to One-Eyed Willy, we unpack why The Goonies stuck with so many of us — and whether it still holds up today.

Expect some personal stories, laughs, and a few hot takes from the backseat.

This week The Backseat Critics reviewing a movie half of us didn't know existed - Wee Sing in Sillyville (1989). It's a bright, colorful, musical kids film about.... colors.... community..... and a talking trash heap? We're just as confused as you are. Join us as we break down this forgotten piece of late 80s children's media and try to make sense of what we watched.

Late episode drop, but worth the wait.

This week, The Backseat Critics return to one of our original guilty pleasure franchises with Descendants 4 (2024) — the fourth entry in Disney’s teen villain-sploitation saga. Join RJ and Andrew as they break down horrible wigs, confusing classic Disney character choices, and what happens when a franchise runs out of plot but keeps the glitter budget high.

What if The Wizard of Oz had what we all wanted? Less singing and more electroshock therapy?

This week, we take a  trip back to the Land of Oz with Return to Oz - the 1985 sequel no one asked for.

We discuss wheeler gangs, talking chickens, and why Princess Mombi has a walk-in closet full of human heads. It’s darker, weirder, and somehow still a children’s movie. Will Disney return to this type of children’s movie? We try to make sense of it — from the backseat, of course.
