Joe Weston’s career spans 30+ years in the fields of conflict prevention, leadership, stress management, and communication; he is a highly-sought after facilitator and coach for individuals, corporations, government agencies, and non-profits around the world.

As founder and owner of Weston Network and the non-profit, the Fierce Civility Project, his clients include: NASA, World Bank, Oxfam, Booz Allen Hamilton, PBS, The National Cancer Institute, The United Nations, and Mitsubishi Motors.

His first book, Mastering Respectful Confrontation (2011), has been sold worldwide, and his second book, Fierce Civility: Transforming our Global Culture from Polarization to Lasting Peace, was released in early March of 2023 and is an Amazon bestseller in 14 categories.

Joe served as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University’s Department of Government, Program of Conflict Resolution. He has also worked with various Veterans’ organizations in processes of integration and healing, as well as teaching mediation and leadership to inmates.

What happens when you put people before profit in your business? What if we could put people first in society too? In this interview, I speak with Howard Behar about the servant leadership model, and how putting people first and prioritising their development is the key to building a great business. We also discuss how standing up and speaking up about what we believe in could lead us all back to a more humanitarian society.

Howard Behar's career in business spans over 50 years, all in consumer oriented businesses covering several industries. He retired from Starbucks Coffee after 21 years where he led both the domestic business, as President of North America, and was the founding President of Starbucks International. During his tenure, he participated in the growth of the company from 28 stores to over 15,000 stores spanning five continents. He served on the Starbucks Board of Directors for 12 years before retiring.

Mr. Behar is currently a Trustee for the Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation and is on the advisory board of Anthos Capital. He formerly severed as a board member for: Starbucks, GAP, Shurgard, University of Washington Foundation and IDTech to name a few. Mr. Behar is committed to the development and education of our future leaders and has been a longtime advocate of the Servant Leadership Model. He has also authored two books on leadership titled It's Not About the Coffee and The Magic Cup.
