Getting caught up in the mindset that you must go D1 is idiotic. If you are a top athlete with the skills, talent, and capabilities to play D1, you will be chosen to play. Even then though, a coach only plays 10 guys a game. If riding pine is your goal as a freshman then so be it.
Opportunities to look for:
Division 2 is a great way to work on your craft and grow as a player. Then you have the opportunity to go to a D1 after that first year.
Division 3 doesn't p[provide athletic scholarships but you will be able to play with top talent.
NAIA is the wild west. Scholarships to go around, great teams to play, and a whole but of hard work.
JUCO is one of the best options because it enables you to grow as a man and play ball with little cost.
