  • #77: Ryan from RRaw Golf

TJ and Gary are joined by Ryan Rawlinson, the creator behind RRaw Golf, streaming all the way from England. Ryan shares his whirlwind journey into golf, starting just ten months ago after a career in bodybuilding and a background in the military. With a mix of ADHD-driven energy and pure passion, he built his own golf simulator in just four weekends and now streams what he calls “live golf, but shit”—a blend of sim golf, music, and fun that’s resonated with a global audience.

Ryan dives into his friendship with Rick Webb, how golf gave him a new outlet after stepping away from competitive bodybuilding, and why content creation became the perfect way to channel his obsession with the game. From late-night livestreams to proving skeptics wrong with his DIY builds, Ryan’s story is equal parts inspiring and entertaining—showing how golf can grab hold of someone and completely change their path.

Next we dig deeper into Ryan’s content creation journey and the community that’s grown around his simulator streams. Ryan talks about the freedom of having year-round golf content right at home, how streaming cuts down on heavy editing, and why that makes his on-course filming even more special.

He opens up about the toll of playing nonstop golf, the late-night grind of streaming, and the surreal experience of broadcasting to tens of thousands of viewers as a 15-handicap golfer. More than numbers, though, Ryan shares emotional stories of fans reaching out about how his streams have helped them through difficult times—proof of the powerful community he’s building.

The conversation also touches on authenticity in content creation, the importance of simply being yourself, and Ryan’s next chapter: growing RRaw Golf on YouTube with a “Break 80” series that blends fun, honesty, and production value while staying true to his personality.

  • #76: Tour Championship/Beginning Golfer Part 2

The Basic Bogeys crew breaks down the drama leading into the 2025 Tour Championship, where the top 30 golfers will battle it out with no stroke advantages—making this year’s finale wide open. The guys highlight Rickie Fowler’s gritty run from nearly losing his card last year to finishing 32nd, just missing the cut, and discuss the ugly side of fan criticism that players like Rickie and Max Homa face.

They also dive into Akshay Bhatia sneaking into the final spot thanks to Viktor Hovland’s clutch birdie, Scotty Scheffler’s dominance even without his regular caddie, and the Ryder Cup implications for players like Keegan Bradley, Sam Burns, and Ben Griffin (including Griffin’s wild creatine mishap that led to a shaky start and incredible comeback round).

Part 2 of the episode is our follow-up to last year’s “Beginning Golfer” episode, Anthony Miuccio returns to share how far he’s come in just one season of golf. What started as a casual curiosity has quickly turned into a full-on addiction—complete with range sessions after work, tournaments on the weekends, and constant tinkering with his bag setup.

Anthony reflects on the growth in his swing mechanics, the impact of upgrading to a budget-friendly but modern set of Callaway clubs, and the value of hunting down pre-owned gems on Marketplace to fill the gaps in his bag. The crew also dives into the eternal blade vs. mallet putter debate, how Anthony has adjusted to finding consistency with his stroke, and the lessons he wishes he could tell his past self when just starting out.

We also touch on the hidden costs and misconceptions of getting into golf, why pre-owned clubs are a great entry point, and the new local simulator options that will keep the game going through the fast-approaching winter. The conversation wraps with rapid fire questions—covering favorite content to watch, hidden talents, and Anthony’s personal golf goals, including dialing in consistency and finally getting comfortable pulling driver.

  • #75: Functional Hydration from Course Record

This week, TJ and Gary sit down with Keaton, co-founder of the fast-growing  beverage brand Course Record. Keaton shares the brand’s origin story—launched just nine months ago with his business partner Luke—its mission to provide a tea-based, functional hydration drink for golfers and active people, and the role influencer marketing has played in its early success. They dive into product development, from surveying over 500 athletes to perfecting three flavors—Caddie's Golden Peach, Lemon Lime Birdie Time, and Club Twirling Blue Razz —with plans for a fourth flavor in the works.

Keaton discusses balancing his professional golf background with building the business, upcoming distribution goals, and expansion into big retailers and golf courses. The conversation is filled with comedic tangents—from baby-feeding jokes to “fridge with your order” banter—but also plenty of practical insight into growing a startup brand in the golf world.

Course Record is what they call a “functional hydration” drink built specifically for golfers. Here’s the quick breakdown:

    • Electrolytes for hydration
    • Asian Ginseng, B Vitamins, and L-theanine for focus
    • 40 milligrams of green tea caffeine (less than a Diet Coke)
    • Just five grams of sugar and no sucralose

It’s meant to give you clean energy and steady focus without the crash or jitters.

  • #72: The Tally Tumbler!

In today's episode TJ and Gary welcome Kelvin, co-founder of Tally Tumbler, a uniquely designed drink tumbler that lets you keep score while you play — whether you're on the golf course or in the backyard.

Kelvin shares the origin story of Tally Tumbler, which started with a simple idea during his time running bocce ball leagues in Virginia Beach. Realizing how often people lose track of the score — and always having a tumbler in hand — sparked a lightbulb moment. Fast forward through entrepreneurial hustle, a key partnership with co-founder Matt, and a successful GoFundMe launch during the early days of the pandemic, and Tally Tumbler was born.

Kelvin walks through how the tumblers work, featuring rotating rings to track strokes, greens in regulation, fairways hit, and total scores — no phone or app required. The product’s appeal spans multiple games like cornhole and pickleball, and the team is now expanding the line with a new 14oz convertible model and even looking at custom lids and engravings for tournaments and events.

The conversation dives into lessons from the startup grind, recent high-profile exposure at events with NFL stars, and exciting retail growth with placements on Amazon, Walmart, Target.com, and even regional stores like Meijer. Kelvin also teases plans to further expand the product line and continue innovating in the tumbler space.

Tally Tumbler isn’t just about keeping drinks cold — it’s about enhancing the experience of the games we love to play.

  • #70: John Kelly Golfs Across North America!

The Bumbling Golfer is back, and this time he’s not just bringing good vibes—he’s bringing an unreal golf adventure: playing 1 round of golf in 3 countries across North America in 1 day.

John walks us through how this wild idea was sparked by his motorcycle-riding buddy Troy, a man who thrives on big challenges. Initially planning a multi-state New England trip, John was encouraged by Troy—and challenged by his wife—to think bigger, smarter, and logistically tighter. After some initial pushback and emotional debates, John landed on a plan: start in Canada, fly to San Diego, and finish in Mexico.

The journey kicked off at Pickering Glen outside Toronto. Despite initial resistance from several courses and forums telling him it was impossible, Pickering Glen rolled out the red carpet. The staff prepped the course the night before, showed up before sunrise, and made sure everything—from the cart to the ball—was waiting for John. He teed off at 5:15 AM EST, and finished his final hole at approximately 8:30pm PST or 11:30pm EST.

Beyond the golf, this episode highlights John's emotional journey: from almost giving up to making memories he’ll never forget. He touches on the power of encouragement, the value of supportive friendships and family, and the thrill of chasing an outlandish dream and making it real.

  • #69: Trouble of the Tee Owner Marty Joins the Pod!

TJ and Gary are joined by Marty, founder of Trouble Off the Tee, a golf lifestyle brand with a rebellious twist. Marty shares his unconventional journey—from criminal defense attorney to author of a gritty golf novel, and now apparel entrepreneur. It all started with a transformative trip to Pebble Beach and a fictional character named Lincoln Ross: an elite golfer who can’t stay out of his own way.

Marty details how the book, narrated by comedian Jake Adams from Country Club Adjacent, inspired a brand rooted in authenticity, imperfection, and individuality. He explains how Trouble Off the Tee grew from an idea into a headwear-first company, using features like hidden ball marker magnets and curated Spotify playlists inside the hats to stand out in the saturated golf space.

The crew also dives into the challenges of launching a brand, building a team, and why storytelling and identity matter just as much as style. It’s a conversation about blending creativity with community—and why golf is the perfect backdrop for both.

  • #68: Green Up Golf

In this episode of Basic Bogeys, TJ is ready for an early-morning chat with Kristian, co-founder of Green Up Golf, all the way from Denmark. The conversation kicks off with a shared appreciation for coffee—which fittingly ties into Green Up’s mission: creating sustainable golf products using recycled coffee grounds and biomaterials. Kristian shares the origin story of their innovative eco-friendly tees, developed to address concerns from greenkeepers about the mess and damage caused by traditional wooden and plastic tees. Green Up’s goal is to offer durable, high-quality alternatives that perform like conventional products while being far more sustainable. The discussion covers how their products—ranging from tees to pencils—fit into a broader movement of circular, environmentally-conscious design, and how European perspectives on sustainability are driving innovation in golf. Kristian also explains the importance of keeping their products natural in color to maintain the branding and authenticity tied to their coffee-based roots. The episode highlights shared values with brands like Acorn Hills and sparks a fun, thoughtful exploration of how golf, coffee, and sustainability can come together to create meaningful impact on and off the course.

GreenUp Golf — a pioneering startup transforming used coffee grounds into sustainable golf products like tees, pencils, and divot tools. With the origins of the idea, born from a background in the coffee industry and a curiosity about waste reduction. We hear how the founder’s experience with a major Italian coffee brand helped spark the concept and how they’re navigating sourcing, certifications, and scaling the operation.

We dive into the logistics of collecting coffee grounds, the hurdles of building a brand before a supply chain, and their vision for localized manufacturing — where golf courses and cafés contribute to the materials used in their own course accessories. The episode also explores the design innovations behind GreenUp’s pencils and tees, including reduced graphite waste and the powerful coffee aroma built into the experience.

GreenUp’s breakout moment came at the 2025 PGA Show, where their product won Best New Product — a massive leap forward in visibility. The founder reflects on what they learned from their first appearance and how they plan to capitalize on that momentum at future shows in the U.S., Japan, and Korea.

We wrap with a look at what’s next: from golf bag tags to biodegradable plant pots to potential partnerships with major food and beverage brands. It's a conversation full of purpose, ingenuity, and the kind of fresh thinking golf (and the planet) could use a lot more of.
