Terry Battenberg moved with his family to Sacramento, California when he was 16. While attending Cal State University at Sacramento, he began his coaching career at Jesuit High School where he eventually became California's youngest head coach at the age of 22.
Following a successful four-year run at Jesuit, which included four league titles and one NorCal Championship (TOC), Coach Battenberg became
an assistant to Hall of Fame Coach Ralph Miller at Oregon State University in 1971-2. A year later, he was named the head coach at Montana Tech
College in Butte, Montana where his team set a
school record (at the time) with 24 wins and only 8 losses. From 1980-84, Battenberg coached at American River College in Sacramento, California, where he was an assistant to John Karsten for three years and head coach for one. In 2008-09 he served as an assistant coach at Sacramento State University
During his 34 year coaching career, Coach Battenberg has also directed five different Sacramento area high schools to a league title (13 titles in all during 24 years as a high school coach). He began his career with a 26-2 season at Jesuit High School in Sacramento and finished at Vista Del Lago High School in 2015. Battenberg has coached 25 All League Post Men in 24 years as a high school coach and three in his five years as a college head coach.
