This podcast was compiled in response to an email we received recently from a descendant of Robert Travers, an officer serving under Murrough O'Brien, Lord Inchiquin at the Battle of Knocknanuss which took place outside Kanturk, Co. Cork in November 1647 during the Irish Confederate Wars.
Having downloaded and listened to our Irishlifeandlore.com oral history recordings which relate the detail of the battle, the emailer reiterated the importance of oral testimony in keeping alive the stories of our long and fascinating history.
The soundclips you will hear are taken from recordings compiled in 2001, and feature the voices of:
The late Hugh Burke of Assolas, Desmond Sharp-Bolster of Glenlohane and the late Con Tarrant of Banteer.
