Jesus knew what the road ahead would hold for His followers. And par for the course would be opposition. And so in the first half of Luke's recording of the Beatitudes, our Lord focusses on handling persecution, but also in demonstrating love even to enemies. It's a serious and profoundly challenging call that pushes against our natural thinking, and finds us in desperate need of the Holy Spirit's changing power.
