Emmy-winning actress Laura Wright has spent decades on daytime television and has played Carly Spencer on ABC’s General Hospital since 2005. But long before Port Charles, she was working at her family’s gas station, managing a tanning salon and living a life that looked nothing like the one ahead of her.
On this episode of The Becoming Club, Laura takes us back to the beginning: the audition she almost didn’t go to, walking into a room of trained actors feeling completely out of place, the phone call that changed everything, and being told she needed to be in New York by 5 PM to start work the next morning.
But what stands out most about Laura isn’t simply the career she built. It’s the way she moves through life.
We talk about her instinct to find the fun wherever she is, why she never approached success from a place of “that could never happen for me,” and the mindset behind something deceptively simple that she tells us in this conversation: making herself happy is her job.
From gas stations and tanning salons to more than three decades in daytime television, this is a conversation about opportunity, optimism, trusting yourself, and becoming without losing the person you were before everything changed.

Professional organizer Lauren Moyer doesn’t believe your messy home means you’re lazy. In fact, some of her messiest clients are also some of the highest performers.
Lauren, founder of Simplified by Lauren, joins us to unpack the relationship between our physical spaces and what’s happening inside our brains, and why the right organizational systems can affect everything from cognitive load and focus to our sense of calm at home.
And this is not a conversation about having an Instagram-perfect pantry.
Lauren opens up about living with ADHD and OCD herself, why organization should work with your brain instead of against it, and why the first thing almost every client does when she walks into their home is apologize. Her goal isn’t perfection or minimalism, it’s creating systems people can actually maintain once she leaves.
We also get into Lauren’s own “Monica closet” (yes, even the professional organizer has one), the pressure to present a polished version of ourselves to the world, why decluttering doesn’t automatically mean throwing everything away, and the surprisingly emotional side of deciding what stays and what goes.
Because sometimes that random object in the back of a closet isn’t just clutter. It’s a memory, a relationship, a version of yourself, and figuring out whether you still need the thing can be a lot more complicated than asking whether it sparks joy.
This one might make you look at your home and yourself a little differently.

ABOUT THE BECOMING CLUB
The Becoming Club is about the journey behind success: the growth, pivots, identity shifts and uncomfortable in-between moments that shape who we become along the way.

In Part 2 of our conversation with Nischelle Turner, we pick up right where we left off and somehow, there was still so much more to talk about.
Nischelle takes us through the unexpected turns that shaped a career she never could have mapped out: from hard news to NFL sidelines, CNN, Entertainment Tonight and, most recently, stepping completely outside her comfort zone to lead her first movie. She opens up about imposter syndrome, learning on the fly and what happens when an opportunity arrives before you feel ready for it.
Then, the conversation gets a little unhinged in the best way.
Nischelle gets candid about decades spent interviewing some of the biggest names in entertainment, including the interview she actually walked out of, the people she still gets starstruck by and one of the best days of her career: interviewing Michelle Obama at the White House… which somehow ended with Nischelle stepping on the First Lady’s foot. In her inauguration boots. 😭
And if that wasn’t enough, she tells us about finally meeting Janet Jackson backstage and having what can only be described as a complete fan-girl malfunction. We’ll just say the words “Johnny sent me” will never mean the same thing again.
We also get into reality TV, the Housewives, why Nischelle knows she could never be one herself, and plenty more before bringing it all back to the question at the heart of this show: Who did you have to become?
It’s funny, vulnerable, wonderfully chaotic at times and a reminder that no matter how accomplished you become, you can still be figuring yourself out along the way.
If you missed Part 1, start there first. You’ll want the whole conversation.

What happens when the thing that takes your career to the next level isn't becoming more polished, but becoming more yourself?
This week on The Becoming Club, we're joined by Nischelle Turner, co-host of Entertainment Tonight, award-winning journalist, and the first Black woman to co-host the iconic entertainment news program.
But this conversation isn't just about the history she's made. It's about everything that shaped the woman who made it.
Nischelle takes us back to growing up a country girl in Missouri, the unexpected move to New Orleans that changed the trajectory of her life and career, and eventually making the leap to Los Angeles, where she had to learn an entirely different lesson: stop performing the version of a television journalist she thought she was supposed to be and simply be herself.
We talk about finding your voice, knowing you belong in the room, navigating an industry where women still face very real double standards, finding your people in a city built on hustle, and building a career without ever feeling like there was a safety net beneath you.
And because this is Nischelle, there is plenty of laughter along the way, too.
From her very honest assessment of dating in Los Angeles to unforgettable encounters with some of the biggest names in entertainment, this conversation is equal parts thoughtful, candid, inspiring, and hilarious.
In this episode:
• How New Orleans changed Nischelle's life and career
• Going from hard news to sports and entertainment
• The moment she was told to stop using her “newswoman” persona
• Learning to be herself on television
• Making history as the first Black woman to co-host Entertainment Tonight
• Knowing you belong even when the room wasn't built with you in mind
• The double standards women still navigate professionally
• Building an authentic community in Los Angeles
• Dating, relationships, and why LA dating had all three of us crying laughing
• The experiences that shaped who Nischelle had to become
