Writing a book doesn't have to take years. In fact, it only took me 5 weeks to write mine. One of the biggest keys to getting getting your thoughts out and actually organizing them into a book structure is your ENVIRONMENT - everything from the people you're spending time with to the physical space for your writing. In this episode, I share some the types of environments that were most helpful for me and ways that I approached accountability. Hint: designing your environment and accountability systems first takes really knowing yourself well ;)

In today's episode we talk with Katherine Costa about how she experiences her "nineness" and how the enneagram has allowed her to remember to who she always knew she was. We chat about typical nine tendencies, we explore what anger looks like to a peacemaker, Katherine shares about what it feels like for a 9 in stress to move toward the catastrophic thinking of 6, and we discuss finding wholeness through accessing your centers of intelligence and practicing intentionality.

MEET KATHERINE:

Katherine Costa is an educator and reading specialist who was introduced to the Enneagram at age 17 by a wise therapist. In 2019 she attended her first training in the Narrative Enneagram tradition, where she geeked out on subtypes and somatic awareness, and hasn’t stopped talking about it since. Katherine credits the Enneagram with giving her language for the things she always knew about herself but couldn't articulate, as well as for helping her work with patterns around right action, intuition, and body-based wisdom. She lives and works in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

This week our fellow enneagram teacher Marlie Heberling gives us an insider's perspective of life as an eight. She tells us about what it was like growing up in a world where anger and intensity aren't met with understanding and she shares how she has been able to harness her eight energy and do good with it. We talk about emotions, conflict, centers of intelligence, growth and the question on every non-eight's mind - "What is really behind the protective eight armor?"

MEET MARLIE:

Marlie Heberling has been studying the Enneagram for over 12 years. She began teaching enneagram classes six years ago during her time as a youth minister and has since led workshops at conferences, taught classes to multigenerational groups, and worked with individual couples and families. Marlie began The Fellowship9 Project in 2020 as a way to explore creating better connections through compassion. Fellowship9 is in the process of becoming an educational nonprofit that will offer Enneagram courses to schools, faith and nonprofit groups, and individuals with the mission of creating a more connected community. 

Since moving to Eugene, OR in 2018, Marlie has enjoyed experiencing life in a three-generational home and spending time with her parents, sister, niece, and nephew. She also enjoys exploring the Pacific Northwest and all it has to offer!
