A Newburyport, Massachusetts native, Dr. Debra J. Lay, worked as a classroom teacher, school administrator, and online instructor for higher education for over twenty-five years. She holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix and, more recently, a master's degree in library and information science from Simmons University. Debra came cross-country in 2022 from a director's position at a small non-profit library in mid-coast Maine to become the Assistant Director at Desert Foothills Library. Completely enamored by all that the Valley of the Sun offers, she has remained at Desert Foothills Library as its Executive Director since March of 2023.

Desert Foothills Library's mission is to enrich the Desert Foothills Community by promoting literacy and advancing knowledge through library resources and programs that inspire and support lifelong learning.
