Bernie offers up his thoughts on week 1 of the college football season as he wraps up the show.

Bernie chats with CBSSports.com MLB writer Matt Snyder. Bernie gets Matt's takes on the MLB postseason races including if the Yankees can stop their free fall and if the Guardians have what it takes to improbably remain atop the AL Central. Matt also respects how David Ross wasn't afraid to pitch to Albert Pujols in a tie game when he hit his 695th career home run off Brandon Hughes.

Bernie points out how Lars Nootbaar has excelled offensively with elite production since forcing his way into the starting lineup. Bernie also highlights how the trades for Jose Quintana and Jordan Montgomery are proving to be winners for the Cardinals given the team's record since the trade deadline.

Bernie offers up his list of the most overrated NFL teams heading into the 2022 season. Bernie picks the Patriots, Titans and Packers among the teams he expects to disappoint. He also says to keep an eye on the Bucs as it's going to be almost impossible for Tom Brady to block out all the distractions both around him and that he creates.

Bernie highlights how Paul Goldschmidt's recent slump is starting to pose a threat to his NL Triple Crown chances as Freddie Freeman and Austin Riley prove to be his biggest threats. Bernie also points out how despite some of his struggles, Nolan Gorman has proved to be an offensive asset in the Cardinals lineup.

Mizzou football radio analyst Howard Richards joins Bernie for his weekly visit. Howard talks about how Mizzou met expectations in its opening matchup against Louisiana Tech. He also previews Mizzou's week two matchup at Kansas State and how the game is a test forcing the Tigers to play solid for 60 minutes.

Bernie recaps the Cardinals' performances over the weekend and doesn't put much stock in Monday's loss to Washington. Bernie compares the Cardinals to the other National League postseason contenders and highlights starting pitching as the area they're most lacking in. Bernie points to Jack Flaherty as the X factor for the rotation.

Bernie looks at Mizzou's 2022 outlook as he wonders what are reasonable expectations for Eliah Drinkwitz in his third season. Bernie acknowledges tough circumstances for Drinkwitz, but points out how other coaches have made faster recoveries from more dire situations. Bernie is curious to see how Blake Baker's new defense plays out in a game.

Bernie visits with The Sporting News college football writer Bill Bender. Bill previews the week one matchups, but wishes there were some closer games as even the marquee top 25 matchups have wide point spreads. Bill talks about how Pittsburgh as the edge in its rivalry game against West Virginia with both teams featuring USC transfer quarterbacks.

Bernie is excited for the first full weekend of college football as he professes his desire to flip around all the action, starting Thursday night, and not just focusing on Missouri and Illinois. Bernie offers up his thoughts on some of the Thursday night matchups including if Purdue will take a step forward this season. Bernie also talks about how Oliver Marmol has evolved in his bullpen usage including how he turned to his key relievers for more multiple inning appearances. Bernie does express concern over extending Jordan Hicks into a second inning.
