“I cannot do another thing,” I told my husband this past Wednesday. I shut my schedule down immediately after work, choosing to ignore the list of action items because I just couldn’t do another thing. However, I’d finally found out why I was exhausted.

I stumbled across a podcast featuring Dr. Saundra Dalton Smith earlier that day, and I felt as if God had tossed me a lifeline. The problem with my exhaustion was that I had been sleeping. With the extra routines I’d established, I was technically getting more sleep than ever!

Thankfully, the research Dr. Saundra Dalton Smith’s book conducted for her book, Sacred Rest, came to my rescue. Turned out, I needed some social rest. You see, in her book she outlines seven different types of rest:

• Physical
• Mental
• Spiritual
• Emotional
• Social
• Sensory
• Creative

and they will bless your life! We're going to be talking about these as a form of soul care over the next couple of weeks, and I hope you're here for it because it's going to cause your productivity to increase in ways you didn't even know were possible! Trust me.

When your work is enjoyable, it’s easy to begin building your life around your work, but it is not what the Lord has called us to do. Jesus has called us to steward our gifts well, and some of the gifts we often overlook are our rest and our relationships. 

Let's talk about it during this little QT Session because it’s never anyone’s intention to mismanage their health or their relationships. Unfortunately, it’s just so much easier to do than we realize. Jesus told Peter and the disciples that the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

If we’re going to prioritize the meaningful above the millions of things this world tells us we should be doing, we have to identify our personal areas of growth. What systems have you put in place to help you follow Holy Spirit’s unction lately?

In November, I started setting a reminder at 8PM every night to remind myself to start prepping lunches, laying out clothes, and winding down. This year, I incorporated a habit tracker into my devotional time. We don’t have to be legalistic about anything, but we do need to implement tools that will help us pursue God’s best because the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

We’ll be back with another guest interview next week, but, in the meantime, it’s my prayer that you will connect with me on IG or YouTube and let me know what systems you’ve been putting into place to help you pursue God’s best.

I never thought I would struggle in a conversation about goodness. If there's one thing I know, it's that God is good. However, I'm grateful that my sister in the Kingdom, Dr. Quanny, came alongside me to have this conversation because it's one we need to have. 

The Conversations in our culture encourage us to challenge God's goodness but, today we're challenging the culture.

We're coming together to have a conversation on how to rise above the culture to influence it for Christ, instead of allowing it to influence our connection with Him. As our conversations on the Fruit of the Spirit, found in Galatians 5:22-23 slowly wind down, I truly hope that you'll sit with this episode and invite God to soften your hearts to those areas that are becoming more desensitized everyday.

A lot of us joke about how impatient we are, but if we're going to be honest, impatience produces a lot of evil in our world today. I know, it sounds dramatic, but if we truly think about the Israelites in the wilderness, Abram and Sarai, Cain who killed his brother, and, even Adam and Eve, impatience was always lurking in the shadows.

I am so excited about this conversation because sis is in the middle of her testimony as she steps out on faith to do the thing God has called her to do.

Patience is one of those subjects that we sometimes roll our eyes at hypothetically when we hear our older aunties and grandmas talk about it because hindsight is 20/20 and it feels a lot easier to say when the thing you’re struggling to do, to build, to bless is behind you-at least in our eyes.

Kindness is a fruit of the Spirit and it is a fruit that the world is celebrating, especially now that the holidays are here. However, we know that because it's a fruit, we have to depend on Holy Spirit to help us cultivate and demonstrate it to others. 

Here are a few questions you can ask yourself:

• Are you doing the deep work?
• Are you practicing a sabbath or even resting?
• Are you listening to the unction within your heart when it moves you to show kindness?
