A common belief is that great leaders are the ones who perform the best. In this episode, I break down why the strongest leaders are not focused on their own output, but on improving the people around them.
I have seen teams where everything depends on one person. It might look efficient at first, but over time it creates bottlenecks, limits growth, and reduces confidence across the team.
So what actually makes a great leader? It comes down to impact. Not just what you achieve, but what your team becomes as a result of your influence. Strong leaders build capability. They help others think, contribute, and take ownership.
This also raises an important question. How do you avoid creating dependence? The answer is in how you operate day to day. Instead of being the centre of every decision, you share knowledge, explain your thinking, and create opportunities for others to step up. Over time, this builds confidence and strengthens the entire team.
I also break down how small actions create a ripple effect. The way you behave becomes the standard for others. If you support people, share what you know, and maintain high standards, those behaviours spread. This is how culture is built without needing to enforce it.
Another key part of this is balancing support and challenge. Too much support can lead to comfort and slow growth. Too much challenge without support can create pressure and disengagement. The goal is to guide people while also pushing them to improve.
This builds on the previous episodes in the series. After developing leadership behaviour and learning how to operate under pressure, this is where leadership starts to scale. It moves from how you perform to how your team performs.
Because leadership is not about being the best in the room. It is about raising the standard of the room.
I also talk about a simple shift in thinking. Instead of asking how to get something done faster, ask how you can help someone else do it better. That is where long term impact comes from.
If you want to lead in a way that builds trust, strengthens teams, and creates lasting results, this episode will give you a clear direction.
Because the best leaders are not measured by what they do alone. They are measured by what they develop in others.
