Her son Micah has been in a TP war with his friends, and while the cops even arrived, Julia's incredible response is what made this post even more sensational!!

Local Michiana historian, Matt Emery, gives incredible insight to the places we walk by, drive by, and see every day! 

This week he shares all about the gorgeous Beiger Mansion in Mishawaka! 

While Beiger is a common name you might hear in Michiana, Martin was known for the Mishawaka Woolen and Rubber Manufacturing Company, which became the Ball Band Rubber Company. 

With his mass fortune, he built a stunning mansion, but unfortunately died before it was even completed! 

The history will tell that when Susie Beiger died, she made sure the mansion was a place where elderly women had a place to call home, where all of their needs were met with security and dignity.

The following years would lead to a sale of the mansion, and even a fire that nearly destroyed this local treasure.

We appreciate all that Matt does to preserve and share in the history of this wonderful place we call home!

Dick Pfeil was motivated by a personal passion of the heart 15 years ago to create a Miracle Park in Michiana! 

The Miracle League of Northern Indiana grew out of a long-time dream from Dick Pfeil, a local entrepreneur and philanthropist. As the father of two adult children with cerebral palsy, he understood the barriers people with disabilities face. After discovering a Miracle Field in Florida, Dick was immediately inspired.

“I knew a Miracle Field must find a place in our community.”

 

15 years later, his dream is becoming a reality!!

Executive Director of Mishawaka Parks, Phil Blasko, sahred the excitement that the ribbon cutting is happening on July 18th at Miracle Park! 

The first of its kind here in Michiana, this is an all inclusive, all abilities park that will coincide with the Miracle Baseball League!

This has been a beautiful partnership between community sponsors, generous donors, and excited residents! 

This will be a destination for families around the country as they host state of the art equipment, thoughtful designs, and a place where miracles truly will happen!

Sarah Hickle is with the Elkhart County Special Education Cooperative, providing specialized educational services to students with disabilities, and has been a significant champion of Miracle Park in Mishawaka! She shares just how significant this will be to our community, and how thoughtful the planning process has been with incredible community partners. When asked how she could encapsulate this project in one word, that's exactly what she chose! "Community."

"This is our community, and this represents our community, and so for there not to be barriers for ALL people in our community to be able to have these opportunities and enjoy alongside anyone else in the community, I think that's what we're about."

This week felt like it was officially summer as we spent great time out at the St. Joe Co. 4-H Fair! 

From the incredible show with Hannah Harper, to Kid's Day, and the Youth Talent Show, we were so lucky to be a part of something so special! 

Reed was back from vacation and described it as: "STUNNING!"

He spent some time with tourists to ask some Patriotic Trivia, and their answers might surprise you...

Garth Brooks announced a massive World-wide tour and we are GEEKED that he's kicking it all off in Indy on Aug. 21st-22nd! 

How many corndogs do you think you could consume to be the champion? Brittney was there to witness the corn-doggy goodness where one champion was able to down 11!! 

It was a great week with awesome guests including Stacy Vervynckt with the Mishawaka Business Association ahead of Kamm Island Fest, and Amanda Buchholz with CASA of St. Joseph County as she shared the importance of advocating for children right here in Michiana!

Matt Emery is in studio to share all about the history of the incredible local gem: Potawatomi Zoo!!

While the Zoo is an incredible place for our community today, it was a much different place decades ago. 

The zoo accepted animal donations, and in fact reached out to residents to help in their hunt for new raccoons! Unfortunately with free access to the animals in their enclosures, it wasn't always the safest place for the animals when people would give monkeys cigarettes and food! 

Matt had the chance to share the history of the zoo with the current Executive Director, Josh Sisk, on the latest episode of his podcast!
