3. Imputation= (someone has to pay for my sins).
In order for justice to be satisfied someone must pay and satisfy God’s wrath.
Is. 53:4 (nkjv) surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.
Is. 53:5 (nkjv) but he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon him, and by his stripes we are healed.
Let’s look at the word impute to better understand; others similar words are “reckon”, “count”, “consider”
Rom. 4:5 (nkjv) but to him who does not work but believes on him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,
Rom. 4:6 (nkjv) just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works:
Rom. 4:7 (nkjv) “blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered;
Rom. 4:8 (nkjv) blessed is the man to whom the lord shall not impute sin.”
Our sins are not imputed to us because they have been imputed to Christ… he accepted them as if they were his own debt…
4. Sanctification = our position in Christ cannot be improved, but it must be developed.
Gal. 2:20 (nkjv) I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Gal. 2:21 (nkjv) I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.”
"regeneration" is when we receive a new nature in Christ Jesus.
"justification" is when we receive a new standing - imputed righteousness.
"sanctification" is when we receive the new Spiritual life of Christ in our character and conduct.
Sanctification is what produces holiness. It is the process of becoming like Christ!
Phil. 2:12 (nkjv) therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
Phil. 2:13 (nkjv) for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for his good pleasure.
Sanctification is both: instantaneous & progressive
2cor. 3:18 (nkjv) but we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the spirit of the Lord.
Phillips translation states, "all of us who are Christians reflect like mirrors the Glory of the lord."
The word "sanctification" means: being set apart for God's use and possession.
1cor. 6:19 (nkjv) or do you not know that your body is the temple of the holy spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
1cor. 6:20 (nkjv) for you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Rom. 12:1 (nkjv) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
