Maggi Delgado, creator of PinkLeo Productions, and I talk about media representation for BIPOC, women, and queer people. Maggi hired me for some freelance copy-editing, design, and brand work and in the process we talked a lot about seeing ourselves creating for diverse audiences and resonating with emerging popular media that has begun to depict our stories on screen. We love to laugh and chat and call stuff out and we always go over our meeting times so please enjoy this extra long final episode of season 1 of The Bi-Conscious Badass. Thank you for listening!

I cry in this one! Sometimes we just gotta feel our feelings. This topic is incredibly close to my heart and work and I have such a good time chatting to my longtime ally in this work Kamyon Conner, a licensed social worker and the director of Texas Equal Access Fund. Texas Equal Access Fund provides funding to low-income people in the northern region of Texas who are seeking abortion and cannot afford it, while simultaneously working to end barriers to abortion access through community education and shifting the current culture toward reproductive justice. I was honored to be presented with TEA Fund's volunteer of the year award in 2019 and I continue to work closely with the fund to help folks access their reproductive rights and make sure we are as inclusive an organization as possible. If you or someone you know needs abortion care please click the links below for more information about how and where to get help(US specific).

In this episode I have a chat with the DJ who taught me how to spin vinyl and give back to my community creatively, DJ Leo J! We talk about the course of his music discoveries throughout his life, his career, and how music and food are typically our backdrop for bringing folks together. We also talk about way more music than just hip hop! Check out Leo J's documentary We From Dallas, a movie about Dallas hip hop, through the links below!

I'm sorry about the buzz audible in the first few seconds of the episode. I tried many ways to eliminate it but could not figure it out. DM me if you have advice on how to fix that in the future! This week I was not able to interview my guest so I'm releasing this episode as a two-parter in the hopes I'll be able to deliver an interview soon. This episode is about my passion for music and the hip-hop community and how it has helped me through racial healing for over half of my life.
