Mitch Hudson is the Writer & Director of The Promised Land, a new Bible show that tells the story of Moses and the Israelite wanderings using the mockumentary style popularized by The Office. He joins Kevin to discuss the pilot and what lies ahead for the new show, as well as broader topics like the benefits - and risks - of Bible comedy, the process of biblical adaptation, lessons he's learned as a 2nd 2nd AD for The Chosen, and more.
The Pilot episode for The Promised Land released on YouTube earlier in July and the remainder of the first season will most likely begin filming later this year. My own review of the episode was overwhelmingly positive

After sharing a bit about his own personal story and approach to acting, Kirk discusses his 20+ year friendship and partnership with Dallas Jenkins, the unique atmosphere on the set of The Chosen, and what it's like to engage in creative collaboration on the fly. In 1 Samuel 22 we are told that while David was on the run from King Saul, he became the leader of a band of outlaws, misfits, and runaway slaves. This period is the focus of the first season of our Bible-Verse - an imaginary TV show that we are plotting out in order to deepen our understanding of Scripture, connect with its characters, and experience the joy of creative collaboration.

Our current series is focused on the story of David's time in the wilderness as an outlaw captain fleeing from Saul. June 21, 2024 A New Bible Show Begins: Exploring the Story of David and the Outlaws
Have you ever said to yourself, "I wish the creators of The Chosen would make a show based on THAT Old Testament Story?" Me too. That's why I'm gathering a few of my friends together for a new podcast series, in which we'll be discussing what it would look like to create a series like The Chosen based on the story of David and his wilderness outlaws.
Now, to be clear, we aren't actually filming anything. That would take a ton of money, which we don't have. But we will be outlining the plot and themes of the show, developing characters, and perhaps even selecting a fantasy-cast.
In this conversation we orient ourselves to the biblical source material. In particular, we look at where this story fits in the grander narrative of Scripture and into the Book of Samuel in particular. We also look at some key conflicts.
