Throughout history, people have twisted the scriptures to justify their sin. Hatred, prejudice, abuse—But, not only have people used the scriptures to justify their sin, they have also manipulated it to silence the victims of such sins.
Scripture has been twisted and manipulated to keep women from using their voice, to keep the poor in poverty, to keep the oppressed quiet, and blame the abused.
But this is a serious misuse of God’s word!
With this series, we will be taking a look at some of those scriptures that are so often used to silence the broken, oppressed, and hurting.
We will explore how those passages are often taken completely out of context as well as completely away from their original message. And we will dig deeper into the text, the historical context, and find the actual intent for the message and how it really applies to us today.
And we will find out what the Bible is really saying about the scriptures that are used to silence.
In this episode, we will be taking a look at 1 Timothy 2:12 and 1 Corinthians 14:24--the two verses most often used to keep women out of places of spiritual leadership and to silence their voices.
