A Very Angry BizzleCast: DC Films made a fatal error losing Hailee Steinfeld and ruining Batgirl
Marvel outsmarts DC YET AGAIN, and the title says it all. Part of a much longer podcast to come out with Simi, and I thank him greatly for allowing me to yell for 13 minutes about the infuriating but consistent DC Films habit of making potentially long-term damaging decisions even while doing many other things really well.
This is about Batgirl — my favorite DC comics character — and it’s about my favorite sub-25 actress by far, the hilarious, brilliant, and increasingly famous and loved popstar, TV star, and movie star Hailee Steinfeld; who instead is going to get paid what I would guess is $100 to $200 million by Disney and the Marvel Cinematic Universe to star in anywhere from 3-7 movies over 10 years as the New Hawkeye aka Kate Bishop; not to mention being made perhaps the main piece of the New (female) Avengers.
It’s a much smarter career move for Hailee because Marvel is God right now and DC can become a mess at anytime. But I still believe the superhero role she was destined for that DC TOTALLY F*****KED UP is Barbara Gordon’s iconic and extremely important Batgirl, but DC instead decided to put forward (to me) an irrelevant Batgirl named Cassandra Cain and NOT BATGIRL AND DC LEGEND BARBARA GORDON. Even worse, we are getting Batgirl with seemingly mind-blowingly terrible casting as well as the absolutely wrong character.
I think I make a pretty compelling case of why this is even dumber and worse than it seems, and I get extremely passionate so you’ve been warned.
Sorry DC. You are 95% killing it but made a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE DECISION on every level about your most important and iconic young female character in your long, storied, but bizarrely troubled history.
