Remember Saturday serials at the movies? The Southerton Mysteries (three, so far) are episodes in a serial. The Black Tendril is the second, and so far the best written, although it, like the others, could use a good copy editor. "frightened savants" for "frightened servants,) "bare" instead of "bear many healthy sons..." (unless bare naked sons is meant, which presents an intriguing picture); "yelling a sharp ordered..." instead of sharp order.... just some of the things a good editor would catch that Spellcheck will not.

Anyway, I like the plot and hope the fourth book will be better edited.
