Psalm 1:1-3:
1 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.
Scripture Break-Down
In Chapter 1 Verse 1:
We have a movement presented to us, walking to standing to sitting. The people associated with these movements are the wicked, sinful and arrogant.
In Chapter 1 Verse 2:
The word for law is drawn from imagery of a river and flowing water, implying how it should guide us. There is also the word for meditate “Hagah” which means: imagine, meditate, mourn, mutter, roar, sore, speak, study.
Then in Chapter 1 Verse 3:
We see the word “hathal” which means to be transplanted, taken and planted in another environment to promote growth. This verse then mirror the first verse in movements: Dwelling to standing firm to actively doing.
Main Points:
Psalm 1:1-3 tells us that there are things we need to:
Reflective Questions:
Psalm 1:3 uses the word Transplanted – we can’t do it on our own… guess what we aren’t meant to. It’s not about hands blistered from work but raised from surrender. That’s why we make Jesus our Lord, Let Him lead you.
Psalm 23:1-3
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.
