  • Downtown

Downtown Albuquerque News Editor, Peter Rice, started out young in journalism. As a teenager growing up in Washington State, he worked in community radio and later for a consortium of NPR stations. While attending Colorado College, he wrote features for the Colorado Springs Gazette and the Denver Business Journal. He later worked as a general assignment reporter for the Curry Coastal Pilot on the southern Oregon coast, on the city hall beat for the Albuquerque Tribune, and as an announcer/news writer for KUNM.Having noticed the grim direction the journalism industry was heading, he retreated for several years from the business and put in stints as an electrician, video producer, and public relations jack-of-all-trades. He probably should have been content with this, but the siren call of reporting proved too strong in the end – hence, DAN.

  • ABQ Ride Forward Plan

Transit needs across the City of Albuquerque are evolving. To meet those needs, ABQ RIDE is undertaking a comprehensive review of existing transit services and considering ways to enhance its bus transit network and service options.

Study recommendations will aim to best meet the needs of Albuquerque transit users and to make the most efficient use of existing resources.

The ABQ RIDE Forward Network Plan is entering its second phase in which members of the public are asked to provide feedback on where, on a range of possible network designs, ABQ RIDE should design its bus route network, using two network concepts to illustrate that range of possibilities: a high ridership concept and a high coverage concept.

  • Hey Paulie!! Let me have some wine!!

Casa Rondeña Winery was lovingly established in late 1995 as a family undertaking, with the first plantings in 1990 at the hands of vintner John Calvin and his two young sons, Ross and Clayton.

The Tasting Room opened in August 1997 and a winery building, with a commemorative Tricentennial bell tower, was completed in the autumn of 2004. In 2008, a new barrel aging and storage facility, including the Founder's Rotunda, was built in order to expand production capability of the winery and hold special events for winery members and special guests.

In 2010, Mr. Calvin moved out of the home he built on the property and turned it into the 1629 Club. This is a new level of membership to the winery which includes access to the private club among many other benefits.

  • Dan Champine

Dan Champine grew up in Albuquerque and has lived in just about every part of the city at some point.
One of his favorite memories growing up was when he was finally old enough for his parents to drop him off with his friends at Uncle Cliffs (yes, back then it wasn’t just "Cliffs").

    Freedom and Uncle Cliffs

“It was freedom,” he remembers. “We went on every ride and had a blast. Living in Southeast Albuquerque, I remember riding my bike to Winrock Theater to watch the first Batman movie.”
Dan says our kids today don’t always have that same freedom.
