In the beginning of Acts 6 when the number of believers were increasing, the original 12 disciples chose seven men to help manage the tasks and organization of the church.

Stephen was chosen as one of these seven men as one of the first deacons of the early

Christian church.

1. Read Acts 8-9 twice in the coming week. 
2. On your own, journal through these questions:

• Do I have deep reliance on God’s promises and plan, no matter the circumstance?
• Do I have an openness to the Spirit’s work, leading to actions and words that reflect God’s presence and power?
• Do I have a willingness to serve and speak boldly, as Stephen did, despite opposition or personal cost?
• How do I live a life of forgiveness and love, even towards enemies, reflecting the heart of Christ?
