  • Chapter 6: #goated

Marshall County is home to a lot of history... but one of the lesser known stories of Marshall is our history with myotonic (aka fainting) goats. MCHS History Club Members Johntavia Cross, Caroline McNutt, Cathrynne Burrham, and Gracie Stephens trace the mysterious arrival of the goats to Marshall, their prominance in the area, and the origins of the Goats, Music, and More Festival. Cornersville's Cindy Carley of SeaQuest Farms discusses the modern approach to goat farming. Our community spotlight for this episode was MCHS Principal Justin Perry, who was a former student and teacher at MCHS!

  • Chapter 3: Echoes of Connelly

One location in Lewisburg served the community as a site for the education of Marshall County students for over 100 years. From a run of private schools, to the birthplace of Marshall County High School.... However, most know this location as Connelly Middle School. The History Club investigated what made Connelly so special to so many in Lewisburg, but perhaps the best evidence is to just listen to stories that happened in the old hallways and classrooms. The memories and stories tell a history of a building that made an impact on so many people that spent time there learning and teaching. Walls can't talk... but maybe if we dig a little bit deeper and ask the right questions, those stories may still echo the halls of Connelly. This supersized episode hosted by MCHS students Lyle Nelson and Caiden Emmitt features contributions from several current and former educators as they recount stories from Connelly, including:

    • Mary Brewer
  • Ryan Henry
  • David Steely
  • Kevin Mcgehee
  • Jenna Wilson
  • Daniel Batey
  • Mike Reese
  • Lee Perryman
  • Kyle Stacey
  • Kathi Jo Martin
  • Dickie Adkins
  • Connie Page
  • Benita Villines
  • Jeanne Wiles
  • Frank Sullivan
  • MCHS Student Sam Johnson conducted a round table discussion with several former teachers from Connelly.

Caiden Emmitt sat down with Frank Sullivan for an interview about the connection that Connelly shared with his community outreach organization, HOPEtown.

Ellah Wilson also spoke with Director of Schools Jacob Sorrells for our Municipal Community Spotlight about the role a Director of Schools plays in the community.

  • Chapter 2: ”Legendary”

Legendary... it can mean so many different things. For the group of young men and coaches who suited up in the blue and white football uniforms in 1984 for the Marshall County Tigers, the idea of being Lengendary was probably the furthest word from their minds. However, in striving for excellence, pushing themselves, and playing the kind of hard nosed defense that could both excite their crowd, as well as silence their opponent's crowd... these Tigers may have found themselves worthy of legend. Bob Edens, Joe George, Jeff Lyttle, Danny Pickle, and Keith Stacey joined the History Club to help tell the story of the '84 Tigers! (And be sure to subscribe so you don't miss our Bonus episode this summer of the complete Tigers Round Table!) We also hear from Lewisburg's Director of Economy and Community, Greg Lowe. This month's alumni spotlight is current UT-Knoxville freshman Gracie Steely.
