On April 19th, 1943 a gifted young woman was born in McAllen, Texas. Ruth Evlyene Jones, a gifted pianist, educator, restless wanderer, mother of 8, and a woman of immense faith. She had an angelic voice, a sharp intellect, courageous spirit, and toughness about her that she employed to survive the challenges of the world around her, she just happened to be my mother. In this episode, I reflect on impact she had on and in my life, I share a slice of her wisdom, and fail to mention that her gifted music and voice would transfer from generation to generation. She possessed a humility, grace, and flair that was fearless for a woman of her stature, and yet, she knew how to turn scars into stars. This brief episode shares the same title as the unfinished book entitled The Book of Ruth, which tells the story of this remarkable black woman. Happy Heavenly Birthday MA! Miss you Mucho Grande.
