Tonight we chat with a dope emcee and a dope person. He is a phenomenal lyricist weaving together emotion and knowledge like a pro. His most recent work, The North Star: Love of the Art with producer Free Mind is an excellent example of his artistry. And When he is not making music he is working with and empowering young people in Cincinnati, OH. He is Brandon Isaac!  

Tonight we feature a trio that jumped onto the scene with an energetic debut album and a live show like no other. They turned heads for sure. But it was their second album that earned them a permanent place in Hip-Hop royalty. Their sophomore album, “Gravity” was one of the better albums from an era packed with classics. We get into that album and more with Da Bush Babees.

Tonight we feature a good friend of mine (MC Till). I’ve known him for over 2 decades. He is a great thinker. He makes beats. He raps. He is one of the best listeners I’ve ever met. Recently he took a trip to Zambia and it was a life altering experience. We talk about that, Zambian Hip-Hop, and more.

Our guest tonight recently released one of the best albums this year called Glory in the Weight. You could call it boom bap. You could call it soul. But you are probably best off simply calling it great. It is in my opinion his best work yet. And he has been around dropping a few solo projects and group projects as a member of Kooley High. We get into all that and more with Tab-One.  

Our guest for episode #107 is a lyrical legend. He jumped on the scene with the group Artifacts. They gave us two incredible albums in the 90’s then our guest went on to release several consistently dope boom bap albums. He is Hip-Hop through and through with beginnings in DJ’ing and graffiti. And he is releasing another group album produced by DITC member Buckwild. We get into all of that and more with El Da Sensei.

Dres of Black Sheep is an icon in Hip-Hop having created one of the most successful songs in music with the Choice is Yours. His debut album with Mista Lawnge is still heralded as one of the better albums from an era that gave us classic after classic. However, Dres is not stuck in the past. His new work with Stu Bangas is some of his best music yet. He has a new project in the mix with DJ Dez of Slum Village and he has an album over J Dilla beats accompanied by a documentary coming soon. Dres is only just beginning.   

J. Rawls does it all. As a producer he continues to make incredible music. He can also rhyme and DJ and he is a certified Dr. His academic work is groundbreaking as he teaches teachers how to engage young people by understanding and teaching Hip-Hop culture.
