We're talking to Max Patiiuk, Senior Software Dev at Esri about what it takes to support development at massive scale!
We discuss the challenges of maintaining a large JavaScript monorepo with hundreds of contributors, building internal developer tooling, migrating millions of lines of code, improving the developer experience, and using AI to assist with code reviews and development workflows.
Max also explains the “AI velocity paradox”: AI lets developers create code faster than ever, but that increased output creates a new bottleneck around reviewing, testing, and maintaining all that code.
We also get into AI grounded in project documentation, codemods, web components, Lit, developer automation, using AI with personal data, VR Minecraft, and a mutual appreciation for science-fiction audiobooks.

This week, we get to speak to Harry Pamu, Principal Software Dev at Esri!
What happens when a software engineer turns every hobby into an obsession? Harry Pamu joins The Bounding Box to talk about AI, software development, cooking, continuous learning, and how curiosity has shaped both his career and personal growth.

I am excited to showcase one of my early mentors in GIS, really my first mentor in GIS, Sean Christian, who has over 30+ years experience as a Professional Engineer at the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts. Sean championed GIS, not just at the Districts, but along with many others in Los Angeles County during the early days of inter-agency collaboration on GIS data, training, and tooling!
Sean has taken his years of experience to now teach GIS and continue to be a mentor to generations of GIS professionals!

In this episode, I have the great pleasure of talking to one of my mentors in this industry - Warren Roberts, educator and all around great guy!
GIS isn’t just for geographers. In this episode of The Bounding Box, Warren Roberts explains why GIS is one of the most valuable cross-disciplinary skills today, from crime analysis to biology to music festivals, and how students can prepare for real-world careers.

In this episode, Nick Franchino, GIS Manager for LA County Planning, discusses how his team is using story maps, LARIAC imagery, open data, and dashboards to prepare for the LA28 Olympics. He explains jurisdictional challenges across 88 cities, transportation planning (including shuttle routes and games route networks), venue naming complexities, and the importance of digital twins for event planning and operations.
Nick also shares practical advice for GIS professionals: identify gaps, build tools that help your community, and pursue passion projects that add long-term value beyond the event.

Today, I'm talking to Daniel Smith, Sr. Solution Architect at Wherobots and long time geo-wizard! He talks about what happens when your geospatial data goes from a few shapefiles to 40 terabytes a day. We cover everything from snapping messy GPS data to roads, to running spatial joins on billions of points in seconds, and even how not making maps can still be very, very geo. Plus, Daniel drops some real advice for anyone trying to break into the space. Sensors, satellites, squirrels... it’s all in here.
