In this episode of The Brendan Ecker Influence, we dive deep into the chaotic events surrounding Jake Lang’s “March Against Minnesota Fraud” rally in Minneapolis on January 17, 2026. As a pardoned January 6 Capitol rioter, right-wing activist, and GOP Florida Senate candidate, Lang organized the demonstration to protest fraud in Minnesota’s social services programs, targeting immigration policies and the Somali-American community.

With plans to burn a Quran on the steps of City Hall and march to the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood—home to the city’s largest Somali population—the rally drew a massive counterprotest from hundreds to thousands of pro-immigration and anti-ICE demonstrators.

Key facts from the event:

Lang and his small group of about 10 supporters were vastly outnumbered, leading to the rally being cut short.

Counterprotesters pelted Lang with water balloons, iceballs, and other objects. Videos show him being pulled from a City Hall ledge, chased for blocks, and assaulted, resulting in a head wound requiring staples. Lang claims he was stabbed (blocked by his plate carrier), dragged, mobbed, and nearly “lynched” by an “anti-white mob of liberals & illegal immigrants.”

A Good Samaritan’s vehicle helped Lang escape, but the mob attacked the car, attempting to force entry.

No arrests were made on-site. Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) was aware of the event but arrived only after Lang had fled. MPD encouraged assault victims to file reports, but critics allege a deliberate “standdown” order, possibly from Mayor Jacob Frey, allowing the violence to escalate without intervention. This echoes past controversies like Uvalde, where delayed police response fueled conspiracy theories.

Geopolitical context:

The rally occurred amid heightened tensions following a recent ICE raid in Minnesota and the killing of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE officer after she attempted to run the officer over, amplifying anti-ICE sentiments.

CAIR Minnesota’s executive director, Jaylani Hussein, helped organize the counterprotest, advising Somali and Muslim attendees to stay away if prone to violence, urging “white allies” to lead instead.

Minnesota’s ongoing immigration debates, including federal pauses on visas from 75 countries to prevent public charges, add layers to the clash, highlighting broader U.S. divides on replacement theory, fraud investigations, and cultural integration.

Signs of staging or psyop? While sticking to verified facts, we explore circulating evidence and theories:

Some online claims suggest the event was a “false flag” or psyop orchestrated by GOP elements to provoke outrage, incite civil unrest, or justify martial law under the Trump administration. Lang’s history as a provocateur (including J6 involvement where he allegedly assaulted officers with a bat and shield) and his move from Florida to frigid Minnesota for “content” raise questions about intent.

Counterarguments point to organic backlash: Lang’s incendiary rhetoric and Quran-burning plan were seen as deliberate incitement in a diverse community, potentially designed to generate viral footage.
